"You've Got mail": A film workshop
Hello friends, I think most of you have watched this film. The article we are going to discuss is about it as you know. Thus, please check out the following questions, read the article and if necessary watch the film again more critically.
1- The article states that using films as teaching materials brings many advantages. But what could be the disadvanatages ? Please write your opinions.
2- The researcher used films in the lesson called "Media Studies" and created an indepth analyses of films together with students. As a candidate teacher, in which lesson would you like to use films and why?
3-I used the film "You've got mail" to teach vocabulary in my reading class. After the students watched the film, I gave them a short summary of the plot and students were supposed to fill in the blanks with the required vocabulary such as "competition, chain store, family-owned business etc." So, think about an activity related with this film that you could use in your language class. What sort of activites could you give to your students about this film? Please write in details.

  1. 1-ı don't think it has disadvantages but maybe students have difficulty in concentrating on lessons.some students can't understand the subject or so. these are the probabilities.
2-ı would like to use films in listenning and speaking courses because these are related to audible and visual contact.in learning a language it's vital to hear it's daily usage and practice it.
3-some sentences could be paraphrased using other conjuctions without changing the mean, students could role-play some scenes with the aim of practicing conversation in speaking class, they can translate its script in their language in translation lessons and compare them with its original translation

  2. 1)As all of us know watching film is a leisure time activity. At least most of us believe this. Now,we are disscussing about if it beneficial to education or not.I think it has more adventages and disadvantages. The only disadvantage can be concentration, they dont take it serious so it doesn't bring anything to them .
2)ı would like to use films especially in speaking course. The films are as a reflection of real life,ı mean the daily speaking is used in them.hence,it helps us improving our conversation ability.it increasis our words capacity, and because of provading a visual way it makes the words more permanent.
    3) ı choose someone and say him a word that was used in film, then want him to explain it to his friends..first withoout using any words, just with role pleying it..And then want him to explain words with using another words and make his friends to guess the words.By the way eveyone who ı choose at least memorize 2 words,in order to tell the words in best way they would think about it too much,at least they would memorize 2 words.

2)I want to use films in speaking and listening courses, because watching film can be an effective way to attract attention of students.I mean,audio-visual materials is always more necessary in order to speak or understand.
3)I want to my students to write on a paper a word which they can remember from film and take these papers.I select someone to explain any word among them with role playing.maybe this student may not remember word that she/he will explain. Some clues can be given,so others can remember these words. In short, many students are able to learn a lot of words.
