ELT Journal Chapter 9

The Role of NLP in Teachers' Classroom Discourse
Hi everybody,
This week we learned about NLP and discussed about some key points of it. Here are some questions for you. Please write your answers in the comment part. Do not forget to write your name.
1- Do you think your teachers are aware of NLP techniques?
2- How would language learners and teachers benefit from NLP?
3- Do you think you can use this technique in your own teaching? Are there any disadvantages?
Journal Topic for Thursday: I guess I forgot to tell you the journal topic in our last class. For Thursday, please write your comments in your journal notebook about the following topic:
How can people become successful in life? How do you define "success in life"?

  1. 1)I think yes they are aware of this NLPtechniques, because when we look previos years we can see the differences between now and past.İn the past times education was based on teachers , but it isin't so now.İt based on students. Thus something should be learned.
2)There are a lot of techniques that are useful.for example;asking questions to direct studen's thoughts, and also try to provide them to find the answers by themselves.
3)Of course ı can use them in my own teaching.ı think that this technique is beneficial. For the moment ı can't see any disadvantages about it.

  2. 1) As the NLP technique comprehends lots of area in learning and teaching, teachers use this technique's many points, but I don't think most of the teachers use them intentionally and for scientific purposes.
    2) As long as it's used solely to encourage students to think and act more freely in language learning, this approach may be useful for all.
    3) I have to use some of the methods of NLP because, they already exist in humankind's psycology. Some just names them NLP.

  3. 1)I think teachers use these techniques without noticing. They don't know these techniques are NLP techniques.Because these are the necessities of teaching.
2)The teachers can motivate the students, improve classroom communicatıon so this makes the students more active.
3)As ı told before,NLP techniques are the necessities of teachıng.I find them appoprıate for the studens and ı believe these are so usefull both a teacher and a student.

  4. 1)I think many teachers use it unintentionally.Probablt they dont aware of the existence of this program, however this techniques used nearly all of the teachers because of that it can used. You see some of your friend use some techniques and you decide to use same or in other possibility your teacher had used it and you decide whether it was a good way or not and according to this compare and make a decisions which way you follow.
2)teachers can make students believe if they want they can achieve what they want..without insulting or making them upset follow the way in which they have more comprehension ability.
3)ın my opinion they dont have any disadvenages. They also exist in our system.with improving them we can have more benefits.ın order to get efficient results, a quality education..

  5. Can we say that the teachers who use these techniques without being aware or unintentionally are talented teachers???

  6. let's put it this way: Some teachers use the NLP techniques without being aware and they follow every stage unintentionally. They define human psychology for learning and act that way. Observing the learning process is the key to success for them. For those who do a research on learning techniques and choose the NLP as the most effective one, compare and contrast style is the key. So the two mentioned groups ara equally efective but the former is more talented as they just extract the techniques through thinking and observing. That's my idea ^^
